Bell's Palsy at Home

The patients who are bedridden for long time are the ones who need to be given rehabilitation therapy to revive their physical, emotional, psychological and mental state of body and mind. They are in need of physical rehabilitation as they are prone to bed sores and their overall mobility is also affected. If the below mentioned exercises are conducted on a regular basis then their mobility can be eased and they will feel emotionally and psychologically better. The exercises need to be conducted with doctor’s and physiotherapist’s consent for better results. The exercises are laid down below:

  • Hands rehabilitation are through palm stretch exercises where the patient is made to stretch his or her palm by bringing it near your body. Once stretch is done then touch each finger with the thumb one after another. This will bring some movement to the hand giving a sensation of grip to both the hands.
  • Another exercise for hands is Arm Strengthening in which patient needs to stretch his or her hands in 90 degree angle and keep it in the same position for 10 seconds. This needs to be repeated few times till the patient feels discomfort else it will strengthen the arms.
  • The next exercise is for the legs where one person needs to hold the leg of the patient and needs to bend the foot forward and keep it in the same position for 10 seconds. This needs to be repeated for both the legs to have flexibility and mobility for the patients.

If the above exercises are conducted on a regular basis along with positive conversation with the patient, the patient will recover on a physical as well as on a psychological level. The patient is helped in either case through positive reinforcement in the self.
